A good Snap or Snap story takes time, effort, and the right stickers to make. Snapchat has loads of stickers, both static and animated. They feature emoji, Bitmoji, and your location. The location tagging stickers are new and basically allow you to tag a nearby location in your Snap. Here’s how to use them.

Tag a location in Snapchat

Open Snapchat and take a Snap or record a video Snap. You can make any other edits to the snap that you want so apply a filter, add text, or whatever else you want to do to. To tag a location in Snapchat, tap the Stickers button in the column on the right.

In the stickers drawer, tap Location and scroll through the list of nearby locations that Snapchat finds. Tap the location you want to add and it will be added to your Snap.

You can send the Snap to a friend or post it your story. The location sticker will allow Snaps to show up on the Snap map as well. It goes without saying but you will need to give the app access to your location if you want to be able to use this feature.

Not all nearby locations may show up. It seems the feature has a fairly small radius when it comes to finding nearby locations. It only appears to cover a few miles and even then, it will miss locations that otherwise show up on Google Maps. It uses map data from Mapbox and it seems that it isn’t as rich in data as Google Maps is. The feature may be great but the limited map/location data might put a dent in it.

If you’re trying to tag your current location in Snapchat, that isn’t possible. Only places that are recognized by the app e.g., restaurants, gyms, hotels, etc., can be tagged. The feature also seems a bit buggy. During tests, the sticker was able to list 4-5 different locations at first but a few minutes later when a different snap was taken in the exact same location, it was only able to find one location that could be tagged. It’s likely a map data problem.

In the past Snapchat hasn’t been too precise with locations. Users have always been able to use filters to add a city filter and the Snap map does tend to show you areas where there is lots of activity but it too isn’t that precise.
